DUTCH electronics giant Philips has launched a set of flagship audio products that will take the mainstream consumer audio segment by storm.
Reinforcing its 90 years of audio technology heritage, Philips´ 2010 collection of audio products blend state-of-the-art audio technology innovation and sleek design to deliver high quality listening in the living room, in line with the company´s new mantra Obsessed With Sound.
A recent visit to Philips´ Advanced Technology Lab in Leuven, Belgium offers the following products, scheduled to become available in Malaysia soon.
1. Philips MCi900 Streamium Hi-Fi micro system with SoundSphere:
This is the latest hi-fi micro system from Philips. The Philips MCi900 Streamium is designed for mainstream audio enthusiasts who want a truly authentic listening experience.
The SoundSphere speakers have unique free-floating tweeters to ensure deeper and wider sound impressions. Listeners will feel that they are in the midst of a live performance.
In terms of music repository, the Streamium technology allows listeners to wirelessly store, stream and enjoy an endless choice of music online, or from music files on their personal computer.
One can store up to 2,000 music albums on its in-built generous 160GB hard drive.
The use of authentic materials for the SoundSphere speakers not only look impressive but also help to reduce speaker cabinet vibrations.
2. Philips HTS9520 Home Theatre with 360Sound:
Small but powerful. These diminutive speakers can fill up an entire room with clear, crisp surround sound, just like in a cinema hall.
The HTS9520 employs 360-degree sound technology, which curves sound around to fully envelop listeners, rather than simply come at them in a straight line. The result: Sound comes from every different angle, no matter where the listeners are in the room.
To cater to the many content options users have, the system has no limit access to movies. Users can play their favourite music and videos on Blu-ray discs, DVDs or on portable storage devices like MP3 players.
They can also enjoy online content via Wi-Fi or built-in Net TV services.
Its design is also very vogue - brushed aluminium finish with stylish and light compact speakers that can be installed immediately.
The system will be available in June at an estimated retail price of RM3,600.
3. Philips HTS9140 Blu-ray SoundBar home theatre:
For those who hate ugly wires lying around connecting to speakers, soundbar is the best option.
The Philips HTS9140 Blu-ray SoundBar home theatre with Ambisound comes in one compact unit that combines a Blu-ray disc player, tuner and speakers, ridding the home of unsightly cable clutter.
Philips has ensured that this bar is big in sound. Users can experience 5.1 surround sound effect and an immersive cinematic experience. The soundbar features multi-channel surround sound without multiple speakers and wires, in any type of space. It also has a wireless streaming capability whereby online content can be accessed via Wi-Fi and home networking. Online services are also available with built-in Net TV service.
Expect the soundbar locally in July for RM3,999.
4. Philips Fidelio DS9000 docking speaker:
Going with the flow is also one of Philips´ market strategies. Recognising that iPhone and iPod have a commanding share in the portable music devices, the company has designed a docking station specifically for the iPhone/iPod fans.
Its two-way acoustic system is capable of releasing the full fidelity potential of the tracks from the iPhone or iPod. The Fidelio DS9000 also looks good. Clean lines and sensual curves of the wooden back frame not only look remarkable but also create a more effective structure for acoustics.
The system also features a smartly designed docking port to accommodate any iPhone or iPod, without the need for special adapters. Apart from iPhone or iPod, the device also connects to other MP3 devices in the market.
The Fidelio DS9000 is expected to be available in July at RM1,599.
5. GoGear Muse MP4 players with FullSound:
The GoGear Muse MP4 player is said to be able to hold its own against the likes of iPods, with the use of Philips proprietary FullSound technology.
With FullSound, audio dynamics are enhanced yet balanced throughout the sound spectrum, so listeners get all the rich details, impact and emotion from sound that often go unnoticed in compressed (MP3) music.
Viewing HD video is also possible on its 3.2-inch touch screen that comes with surround sound for video recreation - just as the film´s sound engineer intended it to be.
The player also comes with a built-in HDMI connector to hook up to a HD flat TV for 720p HD video viewing.
If Apple has iTunes, Philips offers Songbird for managing your music and media files. It´s a programme that discovers, plays and synches all your songs, photos and media.
6. Philips BDP9500 Blu-ray player:
With this new Blu-ray player, Philips takes high definition home entertainment to a higher level with crystal clear images and detailed sound quality.
Via its Qdeo video processor, images are said to have reduced noise, enhanced colour, improved contrast, finer detail and an enhanced sense of depth, resulting in a quiet, pleasing and immersive viewing experience.
The player also uses the high-quality Burr-Brown convertors to ensure a level of quality which is unprecedented in this class of Blu-ray Disc players.
The use of aluminium brushed encasing only serves to boost its sophistication and looks.
