Microsoft Malaysia has announced that Microsoft Office 2010, the next version of its productivity suite, is available for consumers and small businesses to purchase throughout Malaysia.

Highlighting Office 2010 as a landmark push for Microsoft´s cloud computing strategy, Raveesh Gupta, Director of Information Worker Group, Microsoft Malaysia, said that the new release enables users to work, collaborate and share information across the PC, phone and browser.

"80 percent of Office 2010 beta users who have used Office 2010 Web Apps said that it makes it easier to access and edit documents from anywhere," he said. Nearly 10 million people from around the world have downloaded the Office 2010 beta, with 50,000 of that from Malaysia.

Groundbreaking features such as co-authoring; built-in image and video editing, Web Apps, Sparklines and many others earmark a release that aims to help users be at their productive best.

Other features include:

  • co-authoring in Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft OneNote
  • advanced e-mail management and calendaring capabilities in Microsoft Outlook
  • the addition of the new Microsoft Outlook Social Connector, which brings communication history and social network feeds directly into Outlook.
  • Microsoft Office Web Apps, the online companions to Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel and OneNote, that help preserve the look and feel of a document regardless of device, so content and format are generally preserved while moving between the PC, phone and browser
  • video, text and image editing, new broadcast capabilities in PowerPoint
  • auto-previewing in Word
  • easy document preparation through the new Microsoft Office Backstage view
  • new Sparklines in Excel for precise trend and data visualisation.

Office 2010 can also be purchased with the most popular desktops and laptops from leading PC makers including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba.

Raveesh explained that people can purchase a Product Key Card at retail to activate Office 2010 preloaded on new PCs.

" By the end of this year, 80 percent of PCs worldwide will come pre-loaded with Office 2010," he added.

Office 2010 is currently available to consumers in three suites.

Office 2010 Home and Student edition includes Excel, PowerPoint, Word and OneNote and is priced at RM309, while Office 2010 Home and Business includes Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and OneNote for RM688.

Lastly, Office 2010 Professional is available for RM1,799 and includes Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Publisher and OneNote.
