Panasonic Malaysia recently unveiled a new lineup of 12 Lumix digital cameras with various features such as touchscreen capabilities and built-in GPS. There were also cameras for the avid traveller, fashion-conscious and those who are just starting out in digital photography.

"The new LUMIX range is our answer to the escalating demands of the digital camera market. Aside from the importance of excellent picture quality, we recognize that taking a picture today goes hand-in-hand with sharing and communicating," said Jeff Lee, Managing Director of Panasonic Malaysia.

"Therefore, these new models are engineered to enhance the point-and-shoot experience, while complementing the lives of modern individuals."

The travelling companion

Made to compliment the avid traveller, the DMC-TZ20 is a enables geo-tagging while on the go and comes with a 3-inch LCD screen that supports Touch Operation.

The DMC-TZ20 comes with a 14.1 megapixel sensor, ultra-wide-angle Leica lens and 16x optical zoom. It also supports Full HD Movie Recording at 1080p and is a replacement for the DMC-TZ10.

For a digital camera with similar features, but without the geo-tagging capabilities and touch operation, Panasonic has the DMC-TZ18.

However, while the DMC-TZ20 can be used for Full HD Movie Recording at 1080p, the DMC-TZ18 is limited to HD Movie Recording at 720p.

And while both models sport 3.0 inch LCD screens, only the DMC-TZ20 supports Touch Operation.

The DMC-TZ20 retails at RM1,599 and is available in black, silver, red and brown, while the TZ18 retails at RM1,399 and is available in black and silver.

Startup cameras under RM500

Another 14.1-megapixel camera that was also unveiled was the Lumix DMC-S1 and DMC-S3, which uniquely developed for first-time digital camera users.

Both models are equipped with MEGO O.I.S (Optical Image Stabilizer) and iA (Intelligent Auto) mode to help capture great pictures. Other features include a wide-angle LUMIX lens with 4x optical zoom and a Venus Engine VI processor that can handle HD recording at 720p.

The DMC-S3, which retails at RM499 is available in black, red, violet, and white. DMC-S1 retails at RM399, available in black, silver, pink, blue and white.

A camera for the fashion conscious

On the other hand, the LUMIX DMC-FX78 is Panasonic´s ultimate hybrid stylish digital camera that is touch-operated via a large 3.5 inch LCD screen and comes with new playback functions, including Art Retouch and Beauty Retouch mode.

The DMC-FX78 easily handles low light situations with a newly developed 12.1 megapixel Hi-Speed CCD sensor and includes a new F2.5 LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMARIT ultra-wide-angle lens with 5x optical zoom.

It also supports Full HD Movie Recording at 1080p.

The DMC-FX78 retails at RM1,299 and comes in black, silver, pink and white.

A camera for active outdoor use

With a rugged design, the DMC-FT3 is specially geared for active outdoor use. Additionally, it is waterproof to 12m, shockproof to 2m, dustproof, and freeze proof to -10 degrees Celsius.

It also comes with a built-in GPS function, compass, altimeter and barometer, a 12.1-megapixel Hi-Speed CCD sensor coupled with the Venus Engine FHD and support for Full HD Movie Recording at 1080p.

The DMC-FT3 retails at RM1,599 and comes in blue, orange, red and silver.

The ultra-thin cameras

The 16.1 megapixel DMC-FP7 and the 14.1 megapixel DMC-FP5 are the new additions to the ultra flat and stylish line of LUMIX cameras. Incorporating an ultra-thin 4x optical zoom lens with folded optics, both models boast exceptional slimness and an urban, chic look.

The DMCFP7 is newly equipped with 3.5-inch large 16:9 LCD (3.0-inch 3:2 LCD for DMC-FP5) that is touch-operated. Both the DMC-FP7 and DMC-FP5 support HD Movie Recording at 720p.

The DMC-FP7 retails at RM999 and comes in black, silver, red and pink. The DMC-FP5 retails at RM849 and comes in black, silver and pink.

Touchscreen cameras under RM900

The DMC-FH25 and DMC-FH27 feature 16.1 megapixel resolutions and 8x optical zoom on the wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens. Both models support touch operation on a 3.0-inch LCD screen and can record HD movies at 720p.

The DMC-FH27 and DMC FH25, which retail at RM899 and RM799 respectively, come in black, silver and red.

Other new cameras

The new 16.1-megapixel DMC-FH5 and 14.1-megapixel DMC-FH2 come with wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens with 4x Optical Zoom, and carry the Venus Engine VI processor, supporting HD Movie Recording at 720p. These two models also come with MEGA O.I.S and iA mode to guarantee excellent results.

The DMC-FH5 retails at RM699 and comes in black, pink and silver. The DMC-FH2 retails at RM599 and comes in black, silver, pink, red and blue.
