More than just blood and gore

Since I had previewed the demo of NecroVision, I will quickly run through the basic story of the game. It´s World War I and you play Simon Bukner, an American serving in the British army. During a surprise attack against a German position, your unit is ambushed with Mustard Gas.

Forced into hiding, you slowly work through the trenches and learn that the Germans are experimenting with demonic forces while another ancient force is trying to stop what could be Armageddon.

NecroVision plays out well, with a story rich in detail. When the game is not pumping story to you, it is pumping hordes of zombies and demons. Together with the ability to dual-wield some weapons and individually fire them, along with pistol whipping and kicking, you get a nice montage of four possible attacks that you can execute.

The game also adds a few "vehicle" missions: one is flying on a dragon´s back, another is using a power armour.

Yes, combat can get repetitive, especially if you do not know the boss´ weakness. You tend to end up killing zombies non-stop without affecting the boss´ health bar.

There are some huge boss battles but unfortunately, their big size could keep them in certain parts of the level, which gives the player an easy kill.

That said, the level design is not linear, in that you don´t have to follow a strictly laidout path, and the graphics are beautiful in a gothic way, although it would have been nice to have more model types for the zombies since they are so many of them. Many players will find the high-octane violence addictive, especially when they discover more powerful weapons and new ways to kill the zombies.

The game has a multi-player mode, too, where you can choose to be Human, Undead or Vampire. Game types consist of Free for All, Capture the (Vampire) Artefact, Team Deathmatch and Last Man Standing.

So, if you are planning for a long weekend of blood, gore and zombie guts, NecroVision might just be the ticket you need.
